5 moving proposals which will make you swoon
The magic is in the moment, and there’s alchemy a-plenty in these heart-melting proposal stories shared on The Knot’s sister site, How He Asked.
1. A WOODLAND FAIRYTALE
“It was the 10th July 2016 and moving day for me. As we were driving back up the country my parents (who were in on the plan) took a detour, until we started driving up a beautiful long drive up to this incredible stately home.
We then stopped at the front of this beautiful house and I was very confused at this point. Then, the first surprise. Mitch walks around the corner with a bunch of roses in hand. I was so shocked as I definitely was not expecting to see him in the middle of Herefordshire!
Later that evening Mitch told me we were going to be having a picnic in the woods – safe to say I was a little suspicious. We headed into the woods and half way through our walk Mitch covered my eyes, so I couldn’t see where we were going, and he lead me into a clearing.”
2. DUCKS IN A ROW
“I met Carl in a town nearby, so we could go to dinner, but he went in a direction I wasn’t expecting at all.
After a 25-minute drive Carl turns down a dead-end road in the middle of a cornfield. I am completely lost at this point with no clue as to where we could possibly be going. He turns down another dirt road with corn fields on either side of us, so all I can see is what is directly in front of the car. And as we start to slow and come to a stop, we come out of the corn fields and there they are: ten gigantic inflatable ducks. My heart stopped because I immediately knew where this was going.”
3. A WINDSWEPT BEACH
“Talk about the surprise of a lifetime! After telling me he had a horrible day at work (to cover up any nervous signs he was showing), he said we should go out to a nice dinner and watch the sunset beforehand. We headed to a spot we’d been before that overlooks Pismo Beach. The wind was HOWLING! He suggested we take a picture and a gentleman below us (who was also taking pictures of the sunset) asked if we’d like for him to take our picture.
Little did I know this was a planned photographer!! He climbed up the rocks and made his way over. After he snapped a couple pictures on my phone, he asked if he could take a couple with his camera. I would later come to find out Cody was holding the ring behind my back without me knowing!”
4. RIDING HIGH
“Kaan and I have been travelling around the world for the past 3 months. We’ve been everywhere – Vietnam, Fiji, Vanuatu, Australia, Sri Lanka, Dubai, and one of the last stops on our trip was Turkey. We were supposed to celebrate our 2 years of dating in the romantic town of Cappadocia and have breakfast watching the colourful hot air balloons fill the sky.
The morning was incredibly beautiful – the sunrise was breath-taking and the hot air balloons were a perfect touch. However, Kaan spent an hour fidgeting with the tripod and setting up the camera (little did I know he was doing that because he was so nervous)! At this point, I couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t just take a picture with me.
As the hot air balloons started to fly above us, he finally had the camera timer set up and ran over to ‘take a picture’. Next thing I knew, he was down on one knee.”
5. LA DOLVE VITA
“We were set to meet my family for 4th of July weekend in Naples, Florida. I am oblivious and didn’t realize he drove to the Miami airport and not Naples (same distance from Orlando but a different side of Florida). My mom and sisters packed a huge suitcase with everything I needed in the trunk. I made quite a scene in the airport crying and loudly calling each one of my friends over FaceTime. We got on our plane and woke up in ITALY!
After a day of exploring, I was met with another surprise and we boarded our Mediterranean CRUSIE! WHAT!? More tears and a few hours later, we were in a car headed to the Amalfi Coast. Then the moment I had imagined for 10 years was unfolding in front of me. Austin, my greatest blessing, got down on one knee, with Positano, Italy in the background and I lost it.”
