1. Meghan Markle
The most recent royal pregnancy was announced by Kensington Palace on social media with a statement saying, “Their Royal Highnesses, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019.” The baby news arrived five months after Harry and Meghan’s royal May wedding, and ahead of their Australian royal tour.
2. Kate Middleton
When she was pregnant with Prince George, a spokesperson from St James’s Palace announced the news, which came nearly a year and nine months after the couple wed in 2011. Kensington Palace announced the happy news for her pregnancy with Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis with an official statement in 2014 and on social media accounts in 2017, respectively.
3. Princess Diana
The Palace announced her first pregnancy less than four months after she married Prince Charles in 1981. She discussed the news with the press, which “set a new mark for informality” and some even reported the announcement to be “chatty”. The Palace also announced her second pregnancy relatively early saying “Both Prince Charles and Princess Diana are delighted by the news – as are the queen, Prince Philip and all the members of both families.”
4. Queen Elizabeth II
The Queen was super vague about her first pregnancy with Prince Charles in 1948. A statement read, “Her Royal Highness the Princess Elizabeth will undertake no public engagements after the end of June.” Her second child, Princess Anne, followed in 1950. The Queen discovered she was pregnant with her third child, Prince Andrew in the middle of the Canada visit in 1959. Once she was six months pregnant, she announced she would no longer take on official engagements. During her fourth and last pregnancy with Prince Edward, she also sat out of some engagements.
5. Sarah Ferguson
Sarah, Duchess of York, announced she was pregnant with her first child with then-hubby Prince Andrew. According to E! News, she was in a helicopter flying when the news was announced. A spokesperson said that Ferguson was in good health and that the royal family was “delighted” by the news. They welcomed Princess Beatrice in 1988 and Princess Eugenie in 1990.
6. Countess Sophie
Sophie, Countess of Wessex and her husband, Prince Edward, announced the happy news that they were expecting with a traditional statement from the Palace. “Their Royal Highnesses The Earl and Countess of Wessex are very pleased to announce that The Countess of Wessex is expecting a baby in December.”
