1. Kate Middleton
The Duchess of Cambridge wore the diamond and platinum Cartier Halo Tiara for her wedding to Prince William in 2011, on loan from the Queen. The tiara features 739 brilliant-cut diamonds and 149 baguette-cut diamonds. Made in 1936, it was give to the Queen mother (Queen Elizabeth’s mother) as a gift from her husband, King George VI, and later passed it on to Queen Elizabeth as a gift on her 18th birthday.
2. Meghan Markle
The Duchess of Sussex borrowed the stunning Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau from Queen Elizabeth for her memorable wedding to Prince Harry in May 2018, which originally belonged to the Queen’s grandmother. The diamond and platinum headpiece features a large detachable brooch made with 10 diamonds at the centre, which dates back to 1893, while the tiara was made in 1932.
3. Princess Eugenie
As the most recent royal to tie the knot, Princess Eugenie of York made a bold choice on her wedding day. The bride said ‘I do’ to Jack Brooksbank wearing the diamond and emerald Greville Emerald Kokoshnik tiara, made by French jeweller Boucheron in 1919, which reportedly belonged to socialite Dame Margaret Greville, who left her jewels to the royal family upon her death. The tiara is made in the Russian ‘kokoshnik’ style, with rose cut pave diamonds set in platinum and adorned with emeralds. The centre stone alone is reportedly a staggering 93.7 carats!
4. Zara Tindall
Daughter of Princess Anne, Zara Tindall, wore the Greek-inspired Meander tiara for her 2011 nuptials to Mike Tindall, on loan from her mother. The headpiece was gifted to Queen Elizabeth on her wedding day by her mother-in-law, who belonged to Greece’s royal family, and features a brilliant cut centre diamond surrounded by a diamond wreath.
5. Princess Diana
As she was known to do, Princess Diana bucked tradition for her royal wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 and wore a stunning tiara that belonged to her own aristocratic family rather than the royal family. The decades-old Spencer tiara, which was made in the 1930s, was worn by her mother and sisters on their wedding days, and the Princess herself wore it many other times after her wedding for royal engagements.
6. Queen Elizabeth
Then-Princess Elizabeth wore the Queen Mary Fringe tiara on her wedding day in 1947 for her marriage to Prince Philip. The stunning headpiece consists of 47 diamond bars, made using stones taken from a necklace that belonged to her grandmother, Queen Mary.
7. Princess Anne
The Queen’s only daughter, Princess Anne, borrowed the same tiara her mother wore on her wedding day for her very own wedding to Mark Phillips in November 1973. While their wedding day ensembles reflected the decade in which they got married, we must admit that the tiara is pretty timeless.
8. Princess Margaret
Queen Elizabeth’s younger and only sister, Princess Margaret, was known for doing things her way, and that’s exactly what she did on her wedding day in 1960 when she tied the knot with Anthony Armstrong-Jones. Rather than borrow a family heirloom (with plenty to choose from!) she wore a tiara she had purchased herself at an auction – the glamorous Poltimore tiara made by Garrard in the 1870s.
