On the 2nd of June 2024, Branica and Gilbert Amato Gauci celebrated their wonderful love story at the picturesque San Lawrenz Church, followed by a reception at Couvre Port, both in Birgu.

The couple’s journey began five years prior, culminating in an unforgettable proposal that took place during a surprise birthday party organised by Gilbert. As Branica blew out her candles, she discovered a ring box on the cake, naturally prompting tears of joy.

Planning their dream wedding was no small feat, as both had strong ideas about how they wanted the day to unfold. With the invaluable help of ‘The Event Specialist’ as their wedding planner, Branica’s maid of honour Ruth DeBrincat, Gilbert’s best man Neil Cauchi, and Branica’s father, Stephen Xuereb, they navigated the logistical challenges posed by the venue since it was not accustomed to wedding receptions, including the absence of water and electricity.

‘We were dead set on making the day memorable for all,’ Branica shared, emphasising their priority for entertainment and the unique venue.

The couple envisioned a ‘fairytale wedding’ theme infused with a Maltese touch.

‘Seeing photos and videos of the day confirms that we achieved this as every time I look back, I shed some tears thinking about our special day,’ Branica reflects, highlighting how their expectations were met in a spectacular fashion.

Branica’s stunning dress was a collaborative decision. Initially confused about her choice, she visited Wedding Bells with her mother and maid of honour. After taking photos, she and Gilbert selected her dress together, which Branica had not originally considered but ultimately wore with confidence.

Adding a touch of magic to their wedding, the couple featured unique entrances at both the church and reception venue. Maltese traditional guards escorted them, creating an enchanting atmosphere that left guests and passersby in awe. The reception venue was adorned with a flower bridge, Maltese crosses, and flags, evoking the grandeur of a Grandmaster’s Palace.

For invitations, which were uniquely designed by ‘Two in One Design’, they opted for a creative approach; Rodianne Abela, one of their bridesmaids, took a photo of Branica and Gilbert in front of the wedding venue. They used this photo as their official wedding invitation which also served as guidance to guests who had never been to the venue before.

As for souvenirs, the couple decided upon a touching tribute, as they presented guests with bookmarks while also donating to Hospice Malta in honour of Gilbert’s late father.

The wedding cake was a simple yet delicious two-tiered almond and bacio cake by Neriku Catering, beautifully displayed on a stand. With approximately 300 to 350 guests, the day was filled with joy, laughter, and a few surprises. The biggest scare came from the unpredictable weather, with rain early on, but the skies cleared just in time for the ceremony, allowing Gilbert to breathe easy.

Among the many cherished moments, Branica’s favourite was the surprise father-daughter dance, which moved both her and the guests to tears.

‘My dad wanted to do a send-off, and this was something I will remember for sure,’ she recalled. Gilbert, on the other hand, highlighted the fun shot cart with a note saying, ‘Take a shot to tie the knot!’ as a crowd favourite. The lively atmosphere was further enhanced by the incredible performances from DCapitals Big Band, while DJ Kugene kept the energy high, ensuring the dance floor stayed packed all night.
