Now this is a timeless relationship! A big congratulations are in order for former POTUS and FLOTUS, Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter who are celebrating their 74th wedding anniversary.
The couple met in the 1940s when Jimmy was on break from the Naval Academy and asked Rosalynn on a date to the movies. In an interview with Washington Post, the former POTUS said he instantly knew she was the one for him after that first date. They went on to tie the knot in 1946.
By their first wedding anniversary, Mrs Carter was having their first child, Jack, after whom followed sons Chips and Jeff, and after a 14-year gap, daughter Amy.
Last October, the couple became the longest-married couple, breaking the George and Barbara Bush’s record, who were married for 73 years and 111 days before the former first lady passed away in 2018. They even beat Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip who will be celebrating their 73rd wedding anniversary come November.
Decades later, Jimmy (95) and Rosalynn (92) still remain active, something which Mr Carter attributes to the fact that he married “the best spouse,” he once told PEOPLE.
“It’s hard to live until you’re 95 years old,” he shared in October. “I think the best explanation for that is to marry the best spouse: someone who will take care of you and engage and do things to challenge you and keep you alive and interested in life.”
Congratulations to the Carters!
