But, according to one bookmaker, there are questions about whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex may in fact be expecting twins.

According to Mail Online, “a source with inside knowledge of Meghan Markle’s pregnancy” was the first to place money on betting site, Paddy Power, on a bet that the couple are having twins. With so many bets subsequently placed, the site has stopped allowing any more bets to be placed.

A spokesperson for the Irish betting company said “We had to suspend betting. We saw an almost identical pattern of betting before the announcements of the couple's engagement and pregnancy. Since the day began, the stream of bets has led us to believe that perhaps the punters – or an insider source – knows something more than we do.”

This far, however, there’s been no official reason to believe that the couple are in fact expecting twins. When Kensington Palace announced that the Duke and Duchess are expecting a few months ago, and, just yesterday, that they’ll be moving to “Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year as they prepare for the arrival of their first child”, they only ever referred to one child.

If the royal couple were to welcome twins, it would be the first time in almost 600 years – the last time being when the Queen of Scotland had twin boys, Alexander and James, in 1430.
