Yesterday, Kensington Palace announced that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are expecting their first child together, and naturally, the news spread like wildfire, with many royal fans going nuts. Here’s everything we know so far about the royal baby announcement.

Reactions and congratulations

Many members of the Royal family, including the Queen, Princess Anne, and Zara Tindall, congratulated the couple at Princess Eugenie’s wedding. Meghan’s mum, Doria Ragland, said she “is very happy about this lovely news and is looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild.”

The Twitter account for Suits also congratulated the couple on their happy news. Fans were quick to chime in, commenting on Suits’ tweet and joked about how Meghan’s on-camera love interest must feel about the news!

Baby name predictions

It’s only been a day and royal baby name predictions have already surfaced. If it’s a girl, ‘Diana’ is a favourite among the bookies, as well as ‘Victoria’, after the Queen’s great-great grandmother. If it’s a boy, many suspect the child will be named ‘Alexander’, with many other traditional royal names to choose from like Arthur, Edward, or Philip. However, considering that they aren’t afraid to break tradition, the couple may choose to forgo historical choices all together. We’ll have to wait till spring to find out!

Their first baby presents

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex received their first baby presents at the start of their first royal tour. Australia’s Sir Peter Cosgrove and his wife gave the couple a few gifts honouring the host country. One was a stuffed kangaroo, complete with a Joey (a baby kangaroo), and a tiny pair of UGG boots, as the brand hails from Australia. They were both delighted and couldn’t have looked happier!

A tribute to Princess Diana

It’s not the first time that Meghan Markle has honoured Harry’s late mother. As she stepped out for the first engagement of the royal tour, she wore a pair of butterfly earrings and a matching bracelet previously worn by Princess Diana. The Princess of Wales was seen wearing these jewels during a trip to Canada with Prince Charles in May 1986.

Mama Meghan’s gifts to her child

Back in 2015, in an interview for Suits, she mentioned that she can’t wait to read Shel Silverstein’s classic picture book ‘The Giving Tree’ to her future children. Meghan also purchased a Cartier French Tank watch when Suits was renewed for a third season. She says she engraved on the back ‘To M.M. from M.M.’ and plans to give it to her future daughter.
