“The older you are, the more you cherish your pregnancy” – Claudia Calleja

Miss World Malta organiser and presenter Claudia Calleja is about to become a mother for the fourth time. Here she talks about the beauty of pregnant women, raising a big family and her plans for the future.

“Every woman goes through different emotions while she’s carrying her child,” says former model Claudia Calleja, now a presenter and the organiser of Miss World Malta. Claudia has three children – Chloe, Kiyan and Francesco – and the fourth is on the way.

“In my case, especially at the beginning of each pregnancy, I’ll be really sensitive and emotional, ready to cry at the drop of a hat. Age makes a difference too. The older you are, the more you cherish your pregnancy. I had my first two children when I was in my twenties, and my last two towards the end of my thirties. When you’re a little bit more mature, you can really understand why they call childbirth a miracle.”

“A pregnant woman has a glow about her – I feel that carrying a baby only makes her more beautiful. Obviously, pregnancy doesn’t affect everyone the same way – but we should enjoy this time to the full, and not waste it worrying on how much weight we’re gaining. We should forget about maintaining the perfect figure, and do the things that make us happy. The way you dress during pregnancy will also make you feel good about yourself – if you wear beautiful and flattering outfits, you’ll look and feel much better.”

“I’m one of four siblings too, and I’ve always loved babies – the tinier the better! Obviously, the older they get, the more energy you spend running after them. I can’t say my children don’t wear me out sometimes, but I love having a big family. I’m only able to do this because I have lots of help, and flexible working hours, so I always try to get my work done while they’re at school. Many mothers have fixed working hours that they can’t do anything about – in that case, they should just make sure to spend as much time as possible with their little ones. Children grow so fast – from babies, to toddlers to their First Holy Communion in the blink of an eye!”

“I’ve got lots of plans and projects related to my network, but I’m in no hurry. I just want to see my children grow up happy and healthy, and that, God willing, we get to spend more time together as a family. I’m just trying to do my best to make sure that it happens.”
