80 years is a long time to be married to someone, but this couple from Austin, Texas has surpassed the odds and are celebrating the mother of all milestone anniversaries. John Henderson, 106, and Charlotte Curtis, 105, are celebrating 80 years together on Sunday, now holding a Guinness World Record as the oldest living couple in the world.
The couple met in a class at the University of Texas back in 1934. “Charlotte looked over her shoulder and smiled and I knew I wanted to take her on a date,” John told TODAY. That date happened and the rest is, well, and incredibly long history. John and Charlotte tied the knot in 1939 and never had children of their own.
In an interview with Fox 61, the couple had some advice to give. “Don’t indicate to your partner that you’re going to be the leader or you’re going to have it your way,” John says. “You have to give and take as life goes by, and be grateful for what you have, and try to make tomorrow a better day than today, and be sure you don’t go to bed at night with a chip on your shoulder. Be aware of the other person’s feelings.”
