Wedding bells ring for Transport Minister Ian Borg
The couple exchanged vows at the Mdina Cathedral, followed by a reception at Howard Gardens in Rabat.
Transport and capital projects minister Ian Borg, 31 wed his long-time girlfriend Rachelle Dingli, 27 at St Paul’s Cathedral in Mdina on Saturday 8th July. The wedding reception was held at Howard Gardens, Rabat.
Ian and Rachelle had been seeing each other for almost three years. The two met through Rachelle’s grandmother, who worked at the office of the Prime Minister in Castille. “I would always tell her to send my regards to her granddaughter, and that’s where it all began!” Ian said in an interview in May.
The couple said that they had planned the wedding for the end of Malta’s EU presidency, although the snap election threw a spanner in the works. In the run-up to the wedding, Ian and Rachelle joked that they had to stop writing ‘The Honourable’ on their wedding invitations, because they weren’t sure which members of parliament would retain that title after the election, including Ian himself. “I wasn’t sure whether I’d be toasting with champagne or sipping on lemons,” Ian joked.
Ian, who was promoted to Transport Minister just last month, started his political career in 2005 as mayor of Dingli, one of Malta's youngest. It’s a sweet coincidence that Dingli just happens to be Rachelle’s surname – maybe a sign that they’re meant to be!
