What You Need to Know About Ed Sheeran's Girlfriend
Millions of Ed Sheeran fans are eagerly anticipating his performance at the Billboard Music Awards next week, but what is of equal interest to the majority of his female fans is the person he’s likely to walk the red carpet with – girlfriend of two years, Cherry Seaborn.
But who is Cherry Seaborn? And how did she manage to steal the ‘Shape of You’ singer’s heart?
Sheeran, who dropped his third studio album, Divide, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 album’s chart in March, met Cherry at Thomas Mills High School in Suffolk, but the pair didn’t get together until two years ago.
After graduating, Cherry moved to North Carolina to attend Duke University, and it was in the US that the pair were to reconnect through a mutual friend. Despite managing to keep their relationship a secret for an entire year, the pair were outed when someone Instagrammed them celebrating their anniversary at Taylor Swift’s Fourth of July party.
Later, the cute couple decided to take a year off to do some travelling together. In an interview with Zane Lowe, Ed said, “were just basically like, let’s quit our jobs and have a year of forming a tight bond. So we went traveling and spent every day for a year together.”
In his March cover story with Rolling Stone, Ed gushed about his love, saying, “she’s the nicest girl you’ll ever meet, but on the field she’s a fucking animal” – Cherry played field hockey in college and signed a contract to play for Wimbledon Hockey Club in London last year.
And if that weren’t romantic enough, the singer even wrote a song for her, called – what else? – ‘Perfect’ on his latest album. He told Us Weekly, “the line that goes, ‘Barefoot on the grass, listening to our favourite song’ was about when we were in Ibiza listening to Future’s March Madness literally not wearing any shoes and going mental on the lawn,” adding, “I didn’t see her first reaction to the song because she lived in New York at the time. So I just emailed it to her but she did really like it.”
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Ed said that Cherry helps keep him grounded: “One day this will fucking end. And I know the one person that’s going to remain constant is Cherry. I should just enjoy this while it’s there, but not let it become my reality. Because that’s not the reality I want to live in.”
So cute! And I’m sorry to break it to you ladies, but the couple are so serious that talk of babies is already on the cards. As Ed told Zayn Lowe, “I wanted to be a dad, like, last year. I’m ready, let’s go — tour bus babies, little fat, chubby babies that just walk around.” Maybe we’ll forgive him if they’re as cute as these two are!
